My cat was sick, I took him to the U of I small animal hospital. He was seen by the emergency team, and even though oncology was fully booked, they agreed to help him. It did not end as we wished, but the care for him and the compassion for us was simply amazing. I will always be so grateful to Dr. Van Schaumburg and Dr. Ross for all they did. I highly recommend them if your pet is injured or ill.

AMAZING hospital. The staff was extremely kind and comforting. They communicated every single thing that was done or had to be done. They saved my cats life overall and I couldn’t be more grateful. From admitting our fur baby to discharge they were so sweet and kind and extremely extremely extremely helpful. These people care for animals. Seriously. We took the drive from Chicago to Champaign and was 100% worth it. May god bless every single person working at this hospital! You are all truly angels! Our 7 year old cat had a full bladder and urinary blockage (extremely serious as it can be fatal) and every place in the city had either told us they couldn’t help or the funds were just way too high to pay. They took my cat in immediately and started helping him as fast as they could no problem at all. Thank you so so so so so much!

We took our pups blue Sunday with issues he was having, and Dr.fidler and her staff were so amazing.. Sadly we had put him down Monday evening due to him having cancer.. Dr.fidler was literally the best. She answered our questions even if we asked it multiple times.. and walked us through everything.. You can tell when someone loves what they do, And she definitely does. Thank you for all your help, and the paw prints and nose prints. We will forever cherish it.

I will always come here in any specialty situation or emergency with my babies. All 4 of my dogs have now (unfortunately) been seen through EMG and every single time we have been treated with such kindness and respect. Wait times have been consistently amazing considering how many animals they have to take care of and owners they have to console, that people in the lobby do not see. Not very many people understand what happens behind the scenes and the professionalism and communication has always been 5 stars. I definitely will always recommend the U of I and will continue to bring my Giant babies here in any case of emergency and/or specialist needs.

I cannot thank the team at the University of Illinois Veterinary Hospital enough for their exceptional care, expertise, and compassion during a stressful time for me and my dog, Dixie. After receiving an extreme and incorrect diagnosis at another clinic, I insisted on an emergency referral to U of I, and it was the best decision I could have made.

From the moment we arrived, the staff demonstrated professionalism, calm, and efficiency. My anxious dog was handled with such care and patience. Within minutes of examining her, their team ruled out the alarming diagnosis we had been given elsewhere and walked me through their reasoning to reassure me that my baby was going to be okay.

What stood out most was their thorough, evidence-based approach. Rather than jumping to conclusions, they considered all the facts and took time to understand the full scope of Dixie’s symptoms to find a proper diagnosis.

The team at U of I quickly determined the actual cause of my dog’s symptoms and provided a clear, practical treatment plan that made sense and worked. They saved us from unnecessary, invasive procedures and weeks of unnecessary waiting and stress.

I recommend the University of Illinois Veterinary Hospital to any pet parent looking for trustworthy, top-tier veterinary care. Their dedication to both animals and their owners is evident in every step of the process, and I so grateful for the care they gave Dixie.

Horrible experience! I called first, advised that my 14 year old dog had ingested a part of a black out curtain, I would like them to induce vomiting and get an x-ray, they explained that more critical cases are seen first, so there could be a wait. I completely understood that. I even signed permission for them to induce vomiting, when we arrived. While in triage, according to my personal vet, he should have been given the eye drops to make him throw up AND he should have been treated as a critical case, because a potential blockage IS critical. (my vet worked in the ER years previously) After 5 1/2 hours, we were finally told that if we wanted an x-ray it would be between $500-$800 and that it would probably be another several hour wait, we opted to take him to our vet in the morning, which they were aware of and told me to feed him in 4 hours. (to do x-ray, he needed to fast and by this time it was after 1:00 am) They would not listen to what we were telling them and wrote down information incorrectly, I had induced vomiting at home, hoping he would throw up the material, but he didn't. Each single person we talked to kept saying "hopefully he stops vomiting" or "we will give him anti-nausea medication to make him stop vomiting" We told each one of them, the ONLY reason he vomited, was because I induced it as soon as I realized he had eaten part of the curtain, he was not vomiting at any other time. We had to correct every one of them and they STILL recorded it incorrectly on his discharge. I will NEVER be back, I will go to Purdue and drive a little bit further. Because truth be known, we could have probably gone to Purdue, gotten the proper care and been home hours sooner. I know several people that will not go back to the U of I and now go to Purdue and they feel they get get much better care there. Had they made him throw up when he was in triage, more than likely, we would not have had to make 3 more trips to Urbana for x-rays, watch his poop for a week to see if he would pass anything, miss work so we could keep an eye on him for signs of a blockage. I understand this is a teaching hospital, but where was the over seeing Vet? This was very sub-standard care. They need to do better.

Dr. Cruz and the students were so kind yesterday. We made an incredibly hard decision to euthanize our Wally, and Dr. Cruz was an amazing support and explained things in a way that was easy to understand. She answered all my questions and was supportive throughout the entire process.

I had to take my cat Shoshanna in for an emergency appointment and was met with some of the kindest, most compassionate people I have ever encountered. Dr. Park had the unfortunate job of delivering the news that my kitty was very sick, and did so with calm professionalism. I had asked to see my cat while she was recovering and was unable but Dr. Park had pictures and videos of her to show me when I dropped in to sign some forms.

Every person there was able to explain exactly what was happening in a way that I could understand and made me feel that they were as invested and concerned with my cat's health as I am. Dr. Summerfield and Dr. Park have been very realistic with me about the prognosis for my cat, which I appreciate. For such an unfortunate situation, I could not have asked for a better staff to treat my baby.
