I was here almost three weeks ago now. I was visiting Juneau for the summer with my little dog, and just had to make the trip back without her. First of all, Juneau isn’t the best place for pets period, with a lack of equipment and no 24 hr vet service, it’s not a good place to run into trouble. After I spent a couple weeks trying to get a vet appointment, I just walked into this office asking for help as my 16 year old dachshund was incredibly lethargic and not herself. They accepted with an extra emergency fee. They ran blood tests and said they couldn’t do much but give her fluids, so she spent half the day there. When I came to pick her up, I had a quick talk with the vet, who let me know what her levels and everything were, sent me off with antibiotics, a few cans of dog food, and my baby in much worse condition than when I brought her in.
A few hours after I picked her up, she had a seizure and I took her over to summit animal hospital, where they retested her levels, which were pretty much the exact same as they were that morning, meaning the fluid flush did nothing. The seizure didn’t stop and her fever was too high and I had to say goodbye to her that night.
The next morning, I brought all but one antibiotic back(they were individually wrapped), and the wet food completely untouched(I had my own, I figured the food was a handout but I was charged for it), and asked if there was anything they could do to give me some money back. The girl at the counter said she’d talk to the vet and I got a call later from that vet, she had to leave a voicemail, with condolences, but nothing about any money back. Not even for the dog food she charged me for and I brought back. It seems like they didn’t help at all, just kept me away from my baby on her last day, and charged every cent they could.
After this all happened, I spoke with some local friends who said I did unfortunately come to the worst vet in town, they were just the closest to me that morning. I’m incredibly disappointed with the lack of care and empathy in this vet clinic, even while I was waiting to pick my baby up, there were a couple people ahead of me with complaints. I wouldn’t recommend this place in the least.

I brought my Beautiful Pit bull Brindie, who was so CLOSE TO DEATH and NO ONE ELSE would see her! She had lost more than 50% of her body weight. She looked all bones with her skin stretched over them! Brindie could not walk and BARLY could breathe, and I JUST KNEW she was dying in my arms! And then, like angels ? from above they ALL SWOOPED in and SAVED MY BABY!!! The GENUINE LOVE that every person there displayed to me showed a different kind of care that was different and FAR BETTER then any service I received elsewhere. THANK YOU for giving me back, MY BRINDIE!!!

I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional care that Dr. New and Dr. Chernova provide for my 13-year-old senior dog and my 2-year-old pup. Their compassion and expertise always put me at ease, knowing my pets are in good hands. The Juneau Veterinary Hospital is always bustling, and I’m consistently impressed by the friendly smiles from the veterinary assistants. We are truly fortunate to have such a wonderful veterinary care provider in Juneau!

My dog passed away while in the care of Juneau vet Hospital. Taking Dax here will forever be the greatest regret of my life. I feel that they didn’t even take the time to get to know my dog. I was never asked questions about what medication he was on. I was never asked if he had eaten before his visit. When I went in to drop him off, they weren’t even sure which leg it was- they had asked me just an hour before his surgery which leg needed an operation. They did not want to see/talk to me before his surgery. It was all so rushed. Could it have made a difference in the outcome of this “routine” surgery? Maybe not, but I’d like to think it could have. Even after Dax passed, the report that was sent to the cremation service was incorrect. He was written down as being “grey”. Dax does not have a single spot of grey on him. It caused even more confusion and distress after his passing. He was treated like a number.

So, because you all did not take the time to get to know Dax- please allow me to tell you more about him. Dax was known as the sweetest gentle giant. He would stick his lips out to accept a treat because he wouldn’t want to touch you with his teeth. He would howl when he was excited. He was the best dance partner and the greatest car ride passenger. Dax was so good with kids and I wanted so badly for him to be here and meet our new baby. Dax impacted a lot of lives in his 5 short years here on earth. So many people are grieving his death. He was such a good friend. Dax wasn’t just a dog- he was our whole world.

And for all those considering Juneau Vet Hospital as either your primary vet or just coming in for a single thing to be done- please trust your instincts. If it doesn’t feel comfortable to you, don’t let them take your family member.

I’ve had only good experiences here. Pturtle (Frenchie) loves his visits here, he also had an awful ear infection that they helped clear up quickly and Cermet (Aussie) has been an anxious menace since he was a puppy - scared of everything - finally at age 10 this new (to us) vet prescribed an anxiety med that seems to be working! While still our anxious boi, he is so far much better/significantly less destructive/not hurting himself when we leave the house. Fingers crossed this new anxiety med keeps working! Thank you, JVH!

Dr New and his staff are a really great team. My pup travels a bunch and has met many vets. She loved Dr. New! I enjoyed him sharing knowledge of (basic) issues that can extend a dogs quality of life and most thorough exam of my girl’s eyes. He addressed all my questions. Great vet! Prices were very reasonable too. Rarely have I left a vet feeling like “that was so worth what I spent”…. Glad to know there is a good vet we can go to in Juneau.
