We first started taking Duke to West LA Dogs in 2017, before he was diagnosed with epilepsy. They have since become our go to for boarding while I travel as well as daycare when we are in LA. I live in Ontario and have struggle to find a place that would take him in the area due to his “disability,” but the team at West LA has always been so helpful and supportive. On top of that, they are always responsive and quick to send updates on how he is doing. My mind is at ease knowing that he is in excellent caring hands with them! I highly recommend them with your dogs’ needs!

Always a favorite! My mid size husky has been going to West LA dogs for well over 4 years now. They are attentive, nice and take great care of her whether she’s there for daycare or extended stay boarding. The staff is knowledgeable and super nice!

Our dog Jason absolutely loves it there (it would seem). He always comes home happy (and thankfully exhausted). The staff is helpful, friendly, organized, and accommodating. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Their negligence hurt my dog! I was traveling overseas and boarded Daisy, my 55 pound English Sheepdog, with them. About a week later, I was texted by an employee saying that Daisy was hurt playing with another dog and needed to go to the vet. Their explanation didn't sit right with me bc I've seen her roughhouse with a LOT of dogs at the off leash park and never get hurt. As such, I asked for the video from their facility of when she got hurt. It was sent to me and just as I suspected, she was NOT hurt playing with another dog, but rather, WEST LA DOGS placed a large industrial hose IN the dog play area. Daisy was playing with another dog when her right paw came down on the hose. She broke her nail on the hose, was bleeding profusely, and limping around. They took her to the vet and the bill was $500 (pain meds, antibiotics, nail removal, casting, etc.). I asked Adam, the general manager of WEST LA DOGS, for reimbursement because the video was clear that an obstruction of any kind (including a hose) shouldn't have been placed in the play area. Adam in true bureaucratic form, denied responsibility and blamed it on Daisy! Unbelievable. I will never go back there!!!!

On 11-17-17 I picked Mason up from West LA Dogs (located at 2251 Federal Ave., LA CA 90064) with a bloody eye ball. When he was delivered to me, I asked immediately what happened to his eye. NO ONE at the daycare saw that his eyeball was injured nor did they have any explanation as to how that could have possibly happened or when. After being examined by my vet, she determined that Mason had a severe hemorrhage/bruising of the left eye along with periorbital swelling which is most consistent with blunt force trauma (a blow to the head). I requested a meeting with the owner, he finally called me a few days later. He first stated that if his employees couldn’t tell me what happened to my dog, neither could he because he wasn’t there and there was nothing he could or would do about that. After informing him that both my dogs (Mason and 6 month old Samson) would no longer be going his facility, I requested a refund of my monthly membership which he did agree to refund. He then became angry and told me: Mason was a highly aggressive dog that has been attacking dogs since his fist day there.

Let me tell you a little bit about Mason. Mason is a shy, quiet dog. There are many people who can attest to his quiet demeanor which is why the accusation that Mason is highly aggressive attack dog, is a BOLD FACE LIE. SECONDLY, Mason has had a paid membership at West LA Dogs for 10 months, beginning when he was 4 months old. IF my dog was a highly aggressive attack dog, why was he allowed to go there? Why had he never been labeled as aggressive before? Why was every single one of his daily reports overflowing with positive comments? Why was my monthly payment of his membership accepted? Why was he allowed to play with other dogs at the daycare? Why was he returned to me in a lobby full of people and other dogs on a daily basis? And above all that, why was I NEVER informed of this assessment of his behavior BEFORE I inquired about his blunt force trauma eye injury?

I asked for video of the day Mason was injured and the owner complied. He sent me 3 videos labeled “Mason Attack Videos”. The videos are 10 – 20 seconds long and show nothing but dogs running around. One video goes blank and picks back up 4 seconds later. When I asked why that video cut out and for the full unaltered video, the owner became angry and accused me of falsely claiming that Mason is not aggressive. He further stated my claims that the footage was altered were “slanderous speculation.” I am EXTREMELY LIVID that Mason received this kind of injury with no action taken to inform me at the time it happened. I am LIVID that no action was taken to get him veterinary care before I came to pick him up that day. I am LIVID at the lack of compassion and care my dog received at West LA Dogs. And I am LIVID that the owner didn’t value my business relationship enough to take any responsibility for his and his employees’ negligence or offer any kind of apology, or concern for me or my dog. I am LIVID that the people I trusted my puppy with betrayed his and my trust. Needless to say, Mason is NO LONGER going to West LA Dogs. The fact that this is how the daycare and the owner handled this situation in such a bizarre, passive-aggressive manner lets me know that both my dogs are better off never returning there.

I filed a police report with the LAPD Animal Cruelty Task Force. The LAPD did an investigation in which the expert opinion of the LAPD vet came to the same conclusion as my vet; that Mason’s injury was the result of blunt force trauma (a blow to the head). The LAPD then turned Mason’s case over to the LA City Attorney’s Office but due to the fact that they were unable to determine who at West LA Dogs was responsible for causing Mason’s injury that day, the City Attorney was unable to press charges.
I had to wait to make this post due to the police investigation into Mason's case at the time of his injury. Attached to this review are pictures of Mason's injury.
