Travelers beware...I live in Albuquerque, NM and was on travel to see family in California for a couple of weeks. I discovered that I would run out of one of my pet's medications before I got back to Albuquerque. Since my pet is seen by a veterinarian at VCA in Albuquerque, I assumed that getting a refill on her prescription at the VCA in Westlake would not be a problem...wrong! I was informed by the staff at this clinic that I would have to have their veterinarian see my cat first before they could refill her prescription. They told me that I could go to any CVS pharmacy and get the prescrition filled there. When I went to CVS I was told that they do not fill animal prescriptions and that I should try Costco. At this point, I logged into my Chewy account and ordered the prescription from them and hope that it arrives before I leave. One would think that the advantage of using the VCA network for your pet's care is that you would be able to get your pet's prescriptions refilled at any VCA. VCA corporate needs to look into this. When I move back out here next year, I will be looking for a non-corporate veterinary clinic.

Not a fan of Dr. Deul. I brought my dog in for discoloration of his eyes and paws. She misdiagnosed him as having allergies. He doesn't have allergies. She gave him shots and sold us special shampoos which we used that did absolutely nothing to relieve his condition. Our groomer then told us she had several other clients' dogs with the same condition which was caused by a bacteria and cured with Tylan powder antibiotics. We looked online and confirmed that vets often prescribe this medication for our dog's condition. After going back and forth with Dr. Duel (she talks over you non-stop) she agreed to prescribe it. But she changed her mind the next afternoon when we checked if it was ready for pick-up, and refused to, insisting on pushing probiotics instead, which have no validation of solving our dog's issue.

Adding a conclusion to confirm this review on 8/3/24. We were able to obtain tylan powder through another source. It completely cleared our dog’s condition within 1 week. His paws are no longer discolored and completely back to white in 10 days. Tylan Powder!

Before and after photos of our dog in June and on 8/3/24 after 10 days of Tylan powder.

If I could give one business 6 stars, this would be my pick.

VCA Westlake Village came highly recommended so we decided to go with it even though it's a bit far from our new home. Plus, we know and trust VCA (shoutout to VCA Animal Specialty Group) and their expertise.

Everyone and everything at VCA Westlake Village is top-notch. From Shiela at the front desk, to Matt the technician, to Dr. Steve and Dr. Deul-- everyone was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating. Apologies if I forgot to mention someone else.

The same goes for the facility and the exceptionally convenient hours of operation.

Between VCA and Trupanion (our pet insurance), we know that even the inherently stressful experiences of visiting a vet can make you feel like your fur children are in good hands.

The service at this hospital is exceptional. The staff is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and caring. I have been a client for many years and I wouldn't entrust anybody else with the care of my beloved Husky. He just had another anesthetic procedure done here. I always get continuous updates. The treatment and follow up home care are explained in detail. I can always call with questions and get an response immediately or at least the same day. My special thanks go to Dr Rosenstein and Heather, the hospital manager, for making me and my pup feel important and cared for.

Been taking my dogs and cats to Westlake VCA for almost 20 years and every time I leave I question why I go there. I wait forever, their prices are very high, and the vets are in and out as fast as possible. I can’t even remember the doctors names as they always change and they barely spend any time with me and my pets when we are there. This week I brought my mastiff in for arthritis. The doc gave her a physical, blood draw and some meds and gave me a $700 bill. Two days later my dog is in pain and having diarrhea and discharge. I called to bring her in and they told me that even though they were open for four more hours they didn’t have any appointments for the vet to see her. I asked if I could swing by for 2-3 minutes for a quick look and was denied. I will never go back. This place is the worst. I suggest finding a good local vet that cares about your pet instead of this high priced factory. Your pet, your family and your wallet will appreciate it.
