I went through there in 1986, and 1987, then, in '88 I completed the program. Barely.
I came in a homeless heroin addict, but left clean and with a better outlook.
There wasn't much of a program back then except work, church on Wednesday and Sunday and whenever you broke the rules.. counseling.
But, it worked for many year.. until the sudden uprising in hard drugs usage and all of the baggage that accompanied.
I left there and became an alcohol/drug counselor and case manager.
I met Paul Darnley, a fellow ARC graduate and counselor.
He was speaking in one of my classes about restructuring the Salvation Army to include more support and stricter guidelines.
I was able to go back a few years later as a county worker for a day and was impressed with the changes.
I'll tell you something else.. you'll never have better food and lot's of it.
I went from a disgusting 165 lbs., to around 220 in four months.
I left the kitchen and became a truckers helper and got healthy as heck.
On weekends we'd walk to the Cinedome and pay for one movie but go into another one after it was over.. we saw 3 movies in a row one Saturday.. my mind was jelly.
I read what another reviewer wrote about the homeless in the area.. there's railroad tracks and open fields and empty lots without much light. Lots of areas without scrutiny.

Its a tough program, no doubt. However I stuck with it and made something of myself with what I learned and the tools that the Sally gave me. My advice is, if you choose to enter the program remember that you're asking these folks for help... they didn't come drag you inside. You'll be there voluntarily. Its their house and their program... which is very successful I might add. Stick it out, let God work some miracles on you, and see what you think after you've completed the program.

Great spot for addiction restoration. Gave my life to Jesus and have not been the same since. This is a Christ Centered 12 Step facility in the heart of Orange County. God's workshop is always rebuilding lives, mending relationships, and redeeming souls.

I entered this facility as neither a alcoholic or Drug addict but on assignment. A full article about my experiences there will be published in the Orange County Register in a short period of time. I’m quite sure a lot of people will be be surprised and shocked.

Today I got a pickup for donation and it happened earlier than the other time I had a pickup which was awesome because last pick up happened around 2 or 3 and this one was around 11. Thomas and Corey were really nice and helpful guys, they took care of everything with no problem and were quick about it as well. They even took a few other items with no hesitation since they were able to squeeze it in. I received awesome service from these guys, thank you so much Salvation Army for your service through these men!

On my way to drop off some donations. Notice an influx in this area of homeless, druggies and alcoholics, not sure but some may have mental issues as well from this center. These people are usually walking in traffic on Lewis st .

I thank God for this program. My prayers answered! My daughter is sober now after more than 7 years addicted, she is healthy and beautiful. I read other reviews and all I can say is not every program is perfect, but let us pray for solutions. I visited briefly recently and all I saw and experienced is love, compassion, kindness along with discipline of course. Discipline a must! Gods love a must! God Bless The Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center.....

I had a solid oak bedroom set with a cedar chest, mirrored dresser, a couple working tvs, craft dressers, bookcase and a few other assorted items. I called Salvation Army to ask if someone would be available to help unload the items to donate and was told yes. I rented a u haul to take the items to drop off. Upon arrival, there was one man working and I asked if he would be able to hep unload the items being donate and he asked "is it junk". I replied "No, it is not and it is a excellent condition solid oak bedroom set". The man at Salvation Army was no help and I had to call family members to come help. He even commented that the headboard looked heavy and laughed. Had I not been pressed for time, I would have left and gone over to Goodwill instead, but I had to get the u haul back and didn't have time. I will never make another donation to the Salvation Army - Ever! They were rude and unappreciative. There are too many other charities that appreciate donations to tolerate such rude behavior. Not only will I Not donate goods to the Salvation Army ever again, I will not make any more monetary donations either.
