Hola, tuve una cirugía de la espalda(L4-L5 Interbody Fusion) en Noviembre 08 de 2023.
Debido a la seriedad de esta cirugía tomé la decisión de ir a un centro de rehabilitación el cual no escogí ni tampoco investigué cómo era el mismo pues el hospital lo sugirió. El centro se llama SURGE Rehabilitation and Nursing, ubicado en el 49 Oakcrest Avenue Middle Island,NY 11953. Jamás pensé que viviría la experiencia que tuve allí: Las cosas esenciales como ser ayudado para una ducha tenía que pelear para lograrla, me comunicaron que tenía derecho a 2 duchas semanales y que debía ponerme en una lista para lo mismo. Al segundo día de estar ahí me llevaron a ducharme, al día siguiente lo pedí de nuevo y no lo logré, después jamás nadie más me preguntó si deseaba hacerlo, en fin en una semana de estadía solo me permitieron una ducha.
La mayoría de las cosas que necesitaba o solicitaba tenía que pelearla, así que tuve que pelearme con todos los niveles de dirección allí, pero debo ser justo y reconocer que el programa de rehabilitación es excelente. Sugiero a quienes tienen familiares envejecientes y que necesitan atenciones en centros para la tercera edad o rehabilitación transitoria, primero investigar y preferible visitar estas facilidades. Para concluir estaba supuesto a que el Departamento de Social Worker de esta institución me enviara a la casa con un programa de Terapia física y ocupacional en la casa y solo se limitaron a darme una prescripción para que yo mismo buscara una compañía que lo hiciera.

Quiero agradecer a todos los que me ayudaron aquí en el centro. Todos fueron muy amables y buenos conmigo. Yo volvería aquí, ellos me hicieron sentir como en casa. Gracias a todos por ayudarme a recuperar!

Had to stay here for an extended stay after being in the hospital. Staff for the most part was helpful and friendly but had some attitude issues with some of the night crew with Carlos being one of the exceptions. He was always helpful. Aides Jen and Tracy, nurse Tracey and Gisele from social work and of course Bridget were all super helpful. The two therapists who helped with my recovery, Paul and Taylor, were awesome! They got me back to where I was before hospitalization and actually improved past that. The kitchen needs work though. Meals were cold alot of the time by the time they got to me and they got something wrong every day , either an item was missing or they would give me something different from what I ordered. One time they even forgot to provide silverware! Quality of some of the food could be better too. But overall it was a pleasant experience

As far as rehabs go this one is by far better than most. Everyone has been very nice, friendly and helpful. PT has been great in all ways pertaining to the patient and families. I would definitely recommend Surge. Downside is the parking, its difficult. But watch out for signs and you will be ok.

Surge's staff has been a tremendous help with my mom. From getting her settled in to helping us get the care she will need on her return home. My mom is welled cared for and that takes a huge load off my mind. The staff even went so far as to include my 8 year old son in the activity of the day, which thrilled my mom and the other residents.

My husband has only been in Surge a couple of days. They told him I had to bring in hangers. I brought in hangers but when I went to visit his clothes were piled up on a table and no hangers to be found. The house keeping staff took them and said they were theirs. They clean off my husbands table and misplaced his insurance card. They act as if none of these things matter. He is paralyzed from the waist down and can't do things for himself. They don't want to do anything for him but prevent him from doing what little he can. Taking what little dignity he has. The only reason he is in that place is because of Paul from physical therapy. He is the best.

My 91 year old Mom was just discharged after 8 weeks. The Rehab team of Terry, Rebecca + got her up and walking again. They have a very good, structured, PT/OT program that we are so grateful for! Anytime I had a question/problem and I reached out to Ron, Director of Nursing, Jennifer, his assistant or Grisel, the Social Worker, I got a call back right away. Sometimes multiple calls and they worked really hard to satisfy my Mom's needs. My Mom's nursing staff, Sean, a nurse, and Marie, an aide, were caring and attentive to her. Use this place if you have a need. Give it a little time to settle in- these life transitions are hard.
