This is a great institution for the pursuit of higher learning, individual development, and fulfillment of academic pursuit. To come here is to discover the motivation to achieve the accomplishment of getting a degree. The staff and faculty are beyond helpful and encouraging of the students. I have attended larger and smaller SUNY institutions before coming to this SUNY university and have found my true place in SUNY at SUNY Old Westbury.

Unlike it’s neighboring private school, SUNY Old Westbury is not only affordable but the staff there are very helpful and knowledgeable. My niece goes here and she spoke to a women at registrar who she said was very kind and helpful. She never got her name but she says that it was around 2-3:30 and the lady was the last person at the front desk and was extremely helpful! My only complaint is with the transfer services department, they get the job done right yes, but if they missed one class or didn’t transfer credit properly (usually during fall semester) they will tell you not to worry and that the problem should be solved in a few weeks but they tend to forget to get back to it. My only advice is that you keep following up with the transfer department just to be sure that they don’t forget about your concern due to the high volume of transfers during fall semesters. I honestly don’t blame them because it is a lot of work especially dealing with the influx of transfers during that time! Highly recommend transferring to suny old Westbury, very affordable and they give you almost all the needed resources for free so you won’t have to go out and spend money on them yourself!

The bad reviews are outdated - the school has done a lot to improve the campus for both residents and commuters. I transferred here 2 years ago from a different school, and am really so happy with my decision.

The campus is beautiful and makes you forget that you're still on Long Island. You'll find some professors you don't love anywhere, but to my surprise I've met some of the best I've ever had (better than the private school I transferred from)

Making friends as a commuter could be hard for some, but the people I've met here are kinder and friendlier than anywhere else I've been.

Yes, some of the buildings are a bit run down, and yes the school doesn't have an A++ reputation. But it really defied my expectations for a lesser known SUNY school.

If you're debating it, just know a bunch of people in your position were also just as skeptical - it's not that bad 🙂
