For a veterinarian listed as an "emergency" animal hospital on Google maps, they have no sense of urgency whatsoever. I walked in with a severely ill animal and it was almost 10 minutes before the receptionists even looked at me/acknowledged that I was there. When she finally looked up to speak to me, I was informed that they do not take walk-in appointments and that they did not have a veterinarian in at the moment. Do not advertise yourself as an emergency animal hospital if you are not capable of dealing with emergencies. Emergency medical care is taken on a "walk-in" basis by the very nature of what an emergency is.
I cannot speak for how they are as primary care veterinarians, but for emergencies they are absolutely useless.

Edit to address their response to my concerns regarding listing themselves as an emergency vet: ONCE AGAIN, DO NOT LIST YOURSELF AS AN EMERGENCY VET IF YOU DO NOT PROVIDE EMERGENCY SERVICES. I have attached screenshots showing that they have listed themselves as an emergency vet to address their claims that they do not advertise themselves as an emergency vet. I arrived at 4:31pm, as they said, but unlike what they said, I was not greeted immediately, I was ignored for almost 10 minutes, I did not leave their facility until 4:48pm. Minutes matter in emergency situations. Ethics matter in the field of medicine. They lack urgency and integrity and I do not recommend this vet for anything.

My experience here wasn't great but also wasn't horrible. The receptionists were nice enough, it seemed clear everyone working there cared for the animals, but I felt communication and consent were not clear which I did not like.
Specifically I brought my cat in for an ear exam, and during the initial discussion in the exam room before the ear check-up we discussed my cats yearly vaccines. I had paperwork showing my cat got vaccines in March, and this appointment was in October - so still about 5 months before she needed to get her shots again. The vet tech was telling me about vaccine costs and saying they could give her shots today and I asked 'do we have to do the vaccines today?' because I didn't really want to since she didn't need them again for several months. Vet said we could talk about it more after the ear exam if I'd like and I said yes I'd prefer that. But then when they came back to the room to tell me about my cat's ears, the vet had both shots in her hands and gave them to my cat without us having another conversation about it. I was pretty stunned because I had been told we'd discuss it again before anything happened, and that just wasn't how things played out.

I never gave them direct consent to give my cat those vaccines during the appointment, and felt caught off guard that they just went for it and gave them anyways even though I was clearly very hesitant and never agreed to it. Clear communication and consent are really important to me. I paid for the exam and vaccines but I won't go back.

I highly recommend Dr. Doggett and Striegel Animal Hospital for your pets needs. I have been a client for years, mainly going in for annual check-ups and vaccines for my four cats, but in the past month, one of my cats fell seriously ill.

I took my cat to a different vet at the beginning since it was a Saturday when my cat’s condition worsened, and they said Striegel or the emergency vet would be the only ones that could help my cat’s condition.

Striegel got me in as soon as possible, and provided top quality care and service for my sweet cat. In our multiple appointments, Dr. Doggett and her wonderful vet techs did everything they could to identify the problem, and to ensure my cat was comfortable and receiving medicine instantly to assist with his problem.

They communicated well to me regarding his condition, and were upfront and honest, which I greatly appreciated. The prognosis was not ideal, and I was often emotional in the appointments. The vet techs, especially Betsy, went above and beyond and comforted me, and they really showed me that they not only care for the fur-babies but for the parents too.

Thanks to Dr. Doggett and Striegel, my cat is finally stable and comfortable, and I sincerely appreciate all the efforts that Dr. Doggett took to help my sweet kitty.

Caring, Prompt and Professional. They helped me out greatly with an injured dog that I had found along the side of the road. They told me to immediately bring him. They assessed his condition and were prepared to get him into a rescue after treatment. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe, and they ensured that he passed peacefully. They had no interest in charging me for the end of life care for the dog. Top notch people.

I could not recommend Striegel enough. I’ve never been to a vets office where everyone was so incredibly nice, you feel very welcomed when you come inside. My three cats all got spayed & neutered here, and the staff was so kind and gentle throughout all of their appointments. Specifically, my appointments were always a joy if I had Ashely or Betsy, they are definitely two standout employees in my opinion.
I love Striegel, and intend to keep bringing my cats here as long as I live in Southern illinois. If you’re looking for a new vet office, I highly recommend them !!!

Took my cat in for an emergency check up. They fit her in their busy schedule and got her taken care of. They are super kind, calm, and compassionate and put my mind at a lot of ease when worrying about my kitty. They are very up front and honest and it truly feels like they love and care for all animals. My cat, poppy, ended up being perfectly fine and they sent us on our way with her being treated with everything she needed. Definitely recommend taking your animals here!!!!<3

What can I say! I wish there were more stars for a start!
I have been so impressed with the care all at Striegel Animal Hospital have taken of my new kitten Pippa, I know she is in safe hands every time she is there, (which let's face it has been way too many times in her short little life so far!)
Owners can tell when a practice genuinely cares about their patients. These professionals do 100%.

I have been terrified of taking my animals to the vet since I had a horrible time with the passing of my 14 year old pittie girl at our old vet. Let me tell you this place is so much better!! They took amazing care of Leo. Friendly, caring, and knowledgable staff. Calming diffusers for him, soft music playing, they even let him play in a cabinet how he likes. Absolutely love this place and I plan on making this my other fur-baby's new vet as well!!
