I initially went to River West on a whim because the other animal hospital had a 4 hour wait time, but I’m very happy that I did. I have a large, anxious dog who’s had some less than great experiences at the vet. Dr. Long and his staff made me feel very comfortable at each visit and made sure to accommodate my anxious dog’s needs. I highly recommend choosing River West.

I really wanted to get our dogs teeth cleaned but our Vet was so expensive. After talking to family, I decided to get an estimate River West. Am I glad I did!! Not only were they Much MUCH cheaper, it was so easy to book an appointment right away. The staff is Super friendly and knowledgeable. The environment is Very Clean. Price really cant be bet. Plus they suggest where you can get certain stuff even cheaper... and they treated my dog as if their own.

This place is a miracle on earth! I was desperate to find an orthopedic surgeon for Benzos broken tibial, one that wouldnt break my bank and that would give me confort that my dog would be treated right. Dr Long did a perfect job and fixing up the bone. And for a price that i havent got anywhere else. I hope everyone that is in need, comes accross this place cuz after that its a guarantee you wount even look for a second option. River West is cleaner and fancier than a medspa!

Long time breeder/pet owner here
Dr Long and his staff, along with Hospital Manager , Alyssa, are a breath of fresh air when our four month old puppy recently became very ill, they got us in immediately and treated her like one of their own. Unable to find a Veterinarian that we have liked in our area we are now traveling the hour it takes to get to River West. Amazing facility, decently priced and top notch care. I recommend 100%

I can't recommend this facility enough. I've already told all my friends and co-workers about this place and my experience. Bear with me, this was a whirlwind of emotions and I want to set the scene.

In August 2024 my dog, Atlas, developed a lump on his rectum. On Aug 21st, I took him to Companion Animal Hospital here in Kenosha to have it checked out. Our vet knew immediately that it was a tumor. (I had had my fingers crossed that it was his anal gland needing expression, but that's not how things go, is it?) I cried, the vet talked about surgery, yada yada yada. They drew blood for testing and some fluid from the tumor to run cytology and we were sent home on pins and needles. Turns out it wasn't cancerous (hurdle one), but because of it's size and location it DID need to be removed before it started obstructing his ability to poop (hurdle two). He had just been seen in May for his annual, so the mass had obviously developed quickly because it was the size of a golf ball and I never even noticed.

Companion didn't perform this type of surgery, so I did need to reach out to other clinics. Over the next week I called WVRC in Waukesha, Fox Valley Veterinary Services, Willow Springs Veterinary Clinic, Pleasant Prairie Animal Hospital, Kenosha Animal Hospital, and Magnolia Springs Veterinary Center and the estimates were between $5k-$7k or the facility didn't do this type of surgery. Cool, love that for us. Gratefully, my neighbor's sister is a vet tech for a specialist in Illinois. I asked her for an estimate and she wouldn't even humor me because of the cost. She did, however, previously work with Dr. Long. She texted him a picture of the tumor and he said he could remove it no problem.

I called the clinic to ask for an estimate and it was sent over within minutes of receiving the cytology and bloodwork Companion had done.. No muss, no fuss (whatever that actually means). The estimate? $777.95. LESS THAN ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. This estimate included the surgery, anesthesia, biopsy, and pain meds. Antibiotics would be an additional $50. I cried again.

They're a walk-in clinic but like to at least know what day you're coming in for things like this, so I planned it for Sept 4th. Wouldn't you know it, I got Covid over Labor Day Weekend up in Crandon. I tested positive on the 3rd and called the clinic. We moved the surgery to the 5th to be "safer". St Charles is about 2 hours away, so I left Kenosha at 5am, admitted Atlas at 7, and left around 730 to go to a friend's house for the day. The clinic was clean, the vet tech was informative, attentive, and kind. I asked about an estimate to clean Atlas' teeth while he was under (knowing the majority of the cost for that procedure is putting them under in the first place) and she said probably $300ish, but they'd call me about it after the surgery.

They called around 945 saying he was done and everything went well. Atlas had a cracked tooth they could remove for $28 and clean his teeth for $85. I was like, "heck yeah!" (for comparison, just a teeth cleaning at my normal vet is $900 baseline) They wanted to monitor him afterwards, but I could pick him up in a couple hours. I was on my way home by 130pm.

Total cost was $763.07. Tumor removal with anesthesia, tooth extraction, teeth cleaning, nail trim, pain meds, and antibiotics. The total cost was less than the original estimate, and it included more procedures. I opted to not get it biopsied because it would have to be removed if it came back no matter what it was. This was better than the best possible outcome.

You cannot go wrong with this place. Dr. Long and his team are making the world a better place one appointment at a time, and I could not be more grateful for it. Pic of the cute boy just for clout. (I didn't think anyone would want to see his butthole)
