Merrick is a fantastic vet office, they are always kind and compassionate. I live in the neighborhood, and all of the dogs around here are well taken care of at Merrick. When we go on walks past the vet, the dogs want to drag me in! I think that speaks volumes that my dogs aren’t afraid to go there. I’ve only had positive experiences, highly recommend!

We are blessed with this neighborhood vet! Moxy has been going since we adopted her. Front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Vet techs are kind and professional. Vets take their time and answer all your questions. Moxy has gotten her yearly checkups and vaccines. Been back for worm checks and issues. Also had ear infections. And she goes there now for grooming with Brittany! I highly recommend as they really are a neighborhood vet and not a corporate entity!

What can i say. At the beginning i wasn’t sure about this place. But in time and meeting the right people, i feel they had more understanding regarding my pets. Dr. Antonisha is a wonderful doctor. Aka the bunny doctor. But he caters to other animals as well. The front desk ladies are lovely people. And there over all prices are reasonable, And fair. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for all these. Also don’t forget to use your first time patients get 15% off for new customers. Check this place out and make it your home vet for your pet! Because your pet deserves it.

Been taking one of my dogs here for years and just started bringing my other new dog as well. I've always loved how great the team is. Front desk is always very cheerful and friendly and their techs and assistans are very sweet as well. Dr. Horowitz is amazing, always listens and takes his time with my pets.
It's the only place where I don't feel rushed and know that they are listening to me. 100% recommend.

Review of Merrick Animal Hospital

I recently visited Merrick Animal Hospital for my dog's yearly exam and was informed during the appointment scheduling that my dog needed a rabies vaccine. I explained that I wished to opt out of that particular vaccine but was fine with all others. The front desk personnel explained that the rabies vaccine is required by law and that I would need to speak to the vet.

Upon arrival for my appointment, the first question the vet tech asked was if I wanted the 1-year or 3-year rabies vaccine. She didn't bother to ask how my dog was doing or if I had any concerns. I replied that I wanted neither. She then informed me that they could not see my dog if I refused, as the vaccine is required by the state. I expressed my respect for their stance but questioned why I wasn't informed of this policy when I made the appointment. She had no answer other than noting that I had expressed my wish not to administer the rabies vaccine.

Dr. Horowitz then entered the room, clearly agitated, and spoke to me in a very aggressive tone. His demeanor immediately caused my dog to become anxious. The first words out of his mouth were that rabies vaccines are required by the state of Illinois and that their license could be revoked if they did not administer it. I responded that I understood and accepted their decision to cancel my appointment, as I did not want to jeopardize their license. He simply said "fine" and walked out.

If you're wondering why I am so adamant about the rabies vaccine, that makes you more human and empathetic than Dr. Horowitz and the entire staff at Merrick. I have had three dogs with adverse side effects from the vaccine, the worst being a sarcoma at the injection site. If even one person at that office had taken the time to ask, "Why do you not wish for your dog to have the rabies vaccine?" the outcome could have been different. I just wanted reassurance that adverse side effects are rare and that recent batches have shown fewer issues.

Dr. Horowitz and staff at Merrick, please do better by your patients. It is not all about revenue; you are in a service industry. Service your patients with empathy. Ask them questions and answer them with your knowledge. Help them feel comfortable with the vaccines you are administering. Take the time to explain the potential side effects.

We have been going to Merrick for a few years for our senior pup, and we have had nothing but wonderful experiences there. The staff and vets are so lovely and kind. Dr. Horowitz is really the best and explains and answers questions very thoroughly and thoughtfully. They are very up front about costs and treatments and the pricing is fair. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a vet in the near western suburbs.
