I was assured that my dietary needs( I have a doctor diagnosed gastro issue) were no problem to accommodate. They were not. I went through the proper chain of command and was ignored. It got to the point that my gastro issue flared up and caused me great pain and distention for days, which caused me to not eat for 2 days! I was told there was nothing they could do and that I'd have to leave if I wouldn't eat. I tried to tell them, it wasn't that I wouldn't eat, I can't!
This wasn't an "an excuse "to leave, I need to be there! I want to be there!

Let me first just say I am grateful for the education and community I have experienced at Hazelden over the past year, it has been great. What is distressing, confusing, and heartbreaking is the lightening-fast way in which our virtual afternoon group has been disbanded. A business decision was made to eliminate the afternoon virtual program and push all current and new clients to attend in-person in NYC. The public party line is that new people "only want to attend in person." Read that as you will... Unfortunately, I live in Southampton year-round, so this is not possible for me.

Even that decision, however near-sighted and poor I might think it is, can be accepted. What is intolerable, and what makes me feel like a distant 3rd class person, is how short the timeframe has been between being told, and our group being officially disbanded. It is a mere 2.5 weeks. I am barely processing it, and it is already over. If Hazelden is meant to be my "safe space" and a place that brings me comfort and security, well Management: you have failed miserably and utterly.

I attended Hazelden's outpatient program. This program is 4 days per week, for 2.5 hours per day (it's not 3 hours a day like advertised). There is a powerpoint presentation/lecture for an hour first (from 10.30 to 11.30) and then from 12.00 to 1.30 you meet in slightly smaller "process" groups.

If you're cash pay (like your insurance doesn't cover it), your initial deposit should be $3,500. Each day is billed at $411. Considering the level of the programming, it's wildly overpriced. $411 to have someone read you a generic powerpoint slide by slide and then a very average hour and a half group isnt worth it. The smaller process group follows no organization or curriculum (just some random prompts and a lot of awkward silences)

My counselor, Olga, was underwhelming to say the least. I would share certain aspects of my situation regarding treatment with her, multiple times, only for her to completely forget and make wildly unrealistic recommendations. Our one on one sessions never exceeded 20 minutes, and usually just consisted of her giving me a handout to complete (which we would never go over or discuss). It was very clear that she was not an addict, she lacked the fundamental understanding of addiction that really only comes with living through it. It's why the best addiction counselors are in recovery.

Oh and also, they use a 12 panel drug test which does not even detect for fentanyl, the most deadly and prevalent drug in our communities, but Hazelden remains clueless as to whether their clients are drug free or not.

If you have the option, check out Freedom Institute or Intercare.

Everyone at Hazelden Betty Ford is a true professional. They put real effort in making sure their clients achieve the goal of abstinence by truly getting to know each individual and tailoring the care provided to them.

Betty Ford Center Rancho Mirage was awesome, top notch!! Counselors in recovery that knew my story, they lived it. TriBeCa was okay. Counselors not in recovery is a waste of time for addicts and alcoholics. The textbook can not teach rock bottom, poverty, losing spouses etc… there’s a point where counselors are salesman, a money grab. Allowing people to leave treatment that aren’t ready just so they relapse and re-enter is not good treatment, it becomes a business.

From my time inpatient the the Betty Ford Center in CA to outpatient services at the Tribeca Location I have found everyone I’ve dealt with (counselors, intake, Doctors, nurses techs, insurance advisors) to truly care and want to help me succeed. They walk the walk and talk the talk. This place has probably saved my life. Thanks HBFC!!!

I use your apps they are great daily meditations etc… I don’t know what in Gods name is going on with your bookstore it’s nuts. I was specifically looking for not very difficult issues Binge droning and other stuff. It’s not worth. You in my almost 10 years in AA ODAAT, just said Let Go Let God. You’ve gone downhill, I found exactly what I needed else where. Just an FYI, I was very disappointed. God Bless
