This is a wonderful place to go when you need kind, helpful and professional assistance. Overall, the staff is top notch, from nurses, nurse techs, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and doctors. I was extremely impressed with and would not hesitate to go to Encompass again if I needed rehab care.
This was my first experience with a rehab hospital. I had a traumatic fall and suffered six fractures, including three pelvic fractures and three broken ribs. The pain involved with moving your hip joint with a pelvic fracture is shocking and excruciating. You are directed not to put any weight on the leg where the pelvic fracture occurred. That means that if you need to go to the bathroom you have to lift from the bed using only one of your legs while also dealing with the excruciating pain of moving the joint by the broken pelvis to get up. At about 70 years of age, and only moderately active, this is not something that came easily to me as I had not been doing one legged squats for fun in my spare time. Suddenly, I needed a lot of help to be able to function in everyday life, which was scary since I had been completely independent.
Encompass provided me with what I most needed during a very traumatic time. I think what stood out to me the most was how kind and helpful the staff were at a time when it was most needed. The nurses were very professional and closely monitored your meds to make sure you were getting what was prescribed. The nurse techs were very understanding of your needs and helped you get to the bathroom and take showers, straightened your bedding, refilled water, and helped with all the tasks which made a horrible time in your life much better. The OT’s and PT’s made sure you kept moving, and learned how to perform tasks to help your adjustment once you were released home. They were very professional and carefully listened and responded to my questions and concerns. They also incorporated some fun activities.
The doctors were also amazing due to the time they spent talking with you (not common these days in the medical profession), their easy-going and engaging personalities, and their concern with making sure you got what you needed to recover. They were great.
Overall the food was good but uneven. Some meals were particularly good and some dishes tasted like I was back in my elementary school cafeteria. The good news is that they had several alternative choices to their daily specials. Plus, I found the kitchen staff to be very helpful when I had questions or needed anything.
What is also helpful at Encompass, is that you have a case manager who will help you get the equipment you need to function after you are released. I received a wheelchair and walker to help me function until I was once again allowed to put weight on the affected leg.
I was told by my visitors that the staff was also wonderful to them and that parking at the facility is very convenient.
