This place is horrible! Don't let your loved ones go here. There is a lot to unpack about this place.

My mom fell at home and I brought her to Phelps Hospital in Tarrytown to be evaluated. She spent a few days at Phelps and they told us she needed to go to rehabilitation hospital for her rehab because Phelps accept her insurance now for rehab. They gave us a list of rehabilitation hospitals in the area that excepts her insurance. So unfortunately we chose this place. They transfered her to Briarcliff Manor rehabilitation center. We were informed that she only needed a few weeks of rehab. They put her in a room that was really nice and it was a private room. She was there for like 30 minutes and they moved her for some reason to another room that was run down and she now had a roommate. I don't understand why they moved her only being there for 30 minutes. It was late I went home. The next morning my mom calls be all upset. She had to go to the bathroom and no one came in to take her to the bathroom. She hit the button to inform the nurse that she needed to go and no one showed up. She was waiting for over 3 hours. So I left my job and went there and helped my mom use the bathroom. I went out into the hallway to find someone and the staff wasn't around. I finally found a nice young black man with dreads. Sorry I never got his name. But he was awesome at his job. He came in and helped her finish up. That was strike one!

Next my mom had a cut on her finger and she needed a band aid. She asked a few times for it. The nurse or nurses aid said she will be right back and never came back. She asked over and over and no one helped her! She had to call me and I had to drive there and I said she needed a band aid. She had been asking. So asked to speak to the head of the place. And he came in and said he would fix these issues. Strike two!

Then on Friday I went to visit with my mom and I noticed she had no oxygen on. I seen the tank in the corner of the room. I asked her about it and she said that the guy never came back. So I went to the nurses station and asked about it. The women said she would get someone. And no one ever came. Strike three!

The food was always cold. They didn't give you any choices. You ate what they severed. No one informed her that you can substitute items. She asked for tea and always got coffee. And that was cold as well. There are so much more to complain about. But I just want to put this nightmare behind us. We discharged early against thier advice. So please don't send anyone there. The place sucks so bad.

Well, I went and read a lot of the comments below. It's funny how Briarcliff Manor rehabilitation doesn't reply to anything that has 5 stars. They don't even ask what can they do to improve themselves. And the 5 star reviews seem to be so fake. Like their friends wrote them.

Pure neglect at the rehab, 1st night them getting her into bed resulted in them trying to pick her up by her diaper, giving her a wedgie while she moaned in pain and they only said oh it's ok. Next day they Left my grandmother who is immobilized in her wheelchair for 5 hours to change the bed sheets and never came back in to bring any sheets, couldn't lay down or sleep in her bed after doing PT and OT. she hit the nurse button because she needed the bathroom. Same day a few hours later, nurse light was on for 30 minutes. when someone finally came in and turned the light off and said they would get someone, 20 minutes went by so I turned it back on and no help for another 1 hour and 30 minutes. Attitude from the small nurse, came in turned the light off and tried to walk out of the room until she saw I was standing there watching, then she turned around and finally asked her what was wrong. Syringe cap and food on her floor. Can hear them talking and laughing at the desk about another patient there while eating cake so they ain't busy. DONT GO HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY MEMBER! YOU WILL BE DOING WHAT THEY ARE BEING PAID TO DO!!!!!!
EDIT: Day 3 Walking into the front of the building all you smell is marijuana and still dealing with increased wait times. 30 minutes just for someone to come in to take her to the bathroom only for the nurse to spend 10 minutes looking for another nurse. Finally got her into bed and again they ripped and wedged the diaper up in her again then left the room while practically slamming the door open where I was standing after being asked about what they did without fixing it. Another 10 minutes for one nurse to come back to finally fix it only for US to still have to fix it since they said it's fine when her diaper looked more like a thong than a diaper. Day 4, found out they were giving her insulin without ever checking her blood sugar.

My father, who is now deceased, was at Briarcliff Manor Center For Rehabilitation And Nursing for around a week's time. He required more attention and care than they could provide. They were dangerously understaffed for the amount of patients they had with complex physical needs. He came in with bedsores, however, they got even worse while he was there for a short period. He was also overmedicated at times. I visited one evening, the last evening he was there, and he was shivering and tilted to one side of the bed, towards the edge by the railing of the bed. He felt hot. I was only there for a minute before I understood how much he must be suffering. I went to get a nurse, they took his vitals, and he was picked up by the ambulance to go to the hospital. He was severely septic and could have died that evening. I thank God that I was able to visit every evening after work, and I needed to contact the concierge representative there and ask multiple times for basic needs to be met. I received no phone calls from the facility to follow up with how my father was doing. Only after he had been gone for some time did I receive a call and an email about his belongings. I find this truly terrible that not one administrator, social worker, doctor, or supervisor called to check in on how my father had been doing after being brought to the hospital ER.

My father received minimal physical therapy there because of staffing- there was a female physical therapist during the day who was very good, but as I said, the staffing prevented more consistent care.

I was told that the staff to patient ratio was adequate and met standards, but what I saw was only a couple of staff at any time, even when I walked past rooms and saw few staff there as well.

The majority of patients were elderly with complex and serious needs that the facility was not able to manage- my father being one of them. I will not forgive Burke Rehabilitation for referring him there. He should have been in the hospital or at the lease stayed at Burke until a better plan could be found. I was told that Briarcliff Rehab and Nursing had a special program for people with spinal cord injuries, but they could take care of my father who required serious care due to his injury and inability to move on his own, sitting in his own waste, waiting for staff to clean him.

Shame on these companies that own Nursing and Rehabilitation facilities, making money off of insurance without providing the proper care. We depended on the healthcare facilities to help my father have some sort of quality of life while he was deteriorating and required real care.

My father passed away this Spring, 2024. I cannot forget the poor care he received at this facility and have come to truly understand the lack of care that this healthcare system and the services for the elders in our society receive when they should be treated with the utmost care, respect, and dignity.

I would strongly encourage reconsidering a permanent admission here. I know the rehab section and other units of the facility are different. I stayed in unit C on the second floor and am only just processing being removed.

So without getting to detailed I more importantly wanted to raise concerns for the safety level having concerns from neglect up to danger to life from lack of proper care.

I may revise this review after more time to digest what I experienced.

My husband‘s experience at Briarcliff Manor was exceptional. My husband was there because he suffered a massive heart attack. The ENTIRE staff, with a few exceptions, was very dedicated, helpful, and friendly. Any problem that he incurred was easily resolved. The nursing staff was extremely supportive and caring as well. The dedicated rehab staff was great. The OT, PT, and speech providers helped my husband to make great improvement in his health. They arranged their daily schedule to assure that my husband was seen by all their providers daily. Thank you Briarcliff Manor Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing for your dedicated service.
