Dr. Schlanger neglected to inform me that my dog’s blood platelets were significantly low when we did her annual blood work with him last year in Spring of 2023. A year later, we did our annual blood work with him again, while also asking him to examine an unusual bulge in her abdomen. Once again, when the bloodwork came back her platelets were now appearing as dangerously low. The lab flagged the issue in the lab report but Dr. Schlanger reported to me that her blood work was all within the normal range. Thankfully, he shares the lab reports with patients so I took the time to go over it closely. When I noticed the lab’s note about her platelets, I reached out to Dr. Schlanger again. He indicated that there was a clot in her blood sample and that her platelets were probably fine (not considering that she was displaying symptoms of NOT being fine). I had to request that he re-examine her and do an ultrasound on her abdomen. Once he took this step, the doctor could see that her spleen was enlarged. He immediately referred me out to a more well-equipped veterinary hospital.

Fast forward to now, almost 4 weeks later, and my dog is in critical condition. She desperately needs a splenectomy but her platelets are so low it’s too risky to operate. She is not responding to the medical treatments to increase her platelets. I am extremely disappointed that her low platelets were not brought to my attention last year when they were higher and we could have given her the therapy she needed to maintain a healthy level of platelets, thus keeping her safe for surgery in the event of a complex injury. If Dr. Schlanger had taken more care with our blood work a year ago, my dog and I would not be going through this horrible experience now, stuck in a painful and lethal catch 22.

I do not recommend Dr. Schlanger’s practice as he does not appear to take health risks and blood work seriously. He takes an, “it’ll probably be okay” approach, even when all clinical signs are indicating otherwise. Sadly, my sweet dog may have to pay for this vet’s negligence with her life. I’m heartbroken.

Dr. Kevin Schlanger is awesome vet, I can always get an appointment, the service is professional, excellent, and affordable, and the staff are super nice, even with my super anxious dog!

I was so scared something was wrong with my baby boy, and wanted x rays regardless of the expensive cost, these guys didint do the x rays as it wasn’t it necessary and they ran tests to assure my baby was okay. Very professional and courteous service was the vet tech (wish I got her name, she had black hair). I previously went to a different vet and they tried to sell me 500$ antibiotics after seeing my dog for about 5 minutes.
This place was a breath of fresh air. Highly recommend brent aire in Culver City.

Not sure why they popped up on my phone. I wasn't there because every time I call they don't have appointments open or take walk ins so I took my dog somewhere closer to me instead of waiting 4 days for an appointment...which I'm glad I didn't because she has Pyometria and could have died waiting.
Even with me describing her symptoms nothing was offered, no suggestions, nothing.
Anyways.
They were kind the two times I brought my dog here after I adopted her from the rescue that uses them and but I will not be bringing her back.

Absolutely terrible. They refused to ever confirm appointments. The lady told me to drop my cat off at 11 for a nueter and they cut off drop off time at 10 and stole 150$ from me as a pet deposit. DO NOT USE THIS VET they do not care about your animals. They only care to take your money.
