I have been going to Family Pet Animal Hospital since I moved to Chicago. The staff is always so kind, patient, and educational - things that are important to me as an anxious cat mom! All the veterinarians are incredible and care for my cat like one of their own. I have moved around the city but always keep Juno (my cat) at FPAH because they always take the time to talk to me through what is going on, follow up regularly, and answer any questions I may have.

Both Dr. Driscoll and Dr. Alvarez were so amazing. Brought our 6 year old cat in for a rabies vaccine, where he ended up having an allergic reaction to it. This led to him having to stay the day at the clinic. The whole staff were so caring and kind to us while we asked questions and didn’t hesitate to help us understand what was happening. The following day we got an email super early in the morning asking how he was and then a follow up call mid-day. The team here is really knowledgeable and cares about your animal like your own. We really appreciate you all for the follow up, the immediate care provided, and the next steps so we can ensure our cat has the best life.

As someone with a more senior cat, my pets care has become increasingly more important. When I discovered a growth on my cat, I took her to Family Pet based upon a recommendation and I couldn’t be happier. Dr. Alvarez was so attentive and sweet with my fur baby. Since the initial review didn’t look ideal, my cat ended up needing surgery to remove the lump. Dr. Alvarez kept in constant communication and was able to answer any and all questions I had. I never felt pressured to make one decision or another, but she did take the time to walk me through all of the options. Dr. Alvarez went as far as providing text updates when she was starting and finished the surgery which I wasn’t expecting straight from the surgeon. I can happily say my cat is doing extremely well and the incision point has healed perfectly. I’ve seen Dr. Alvarez interact with both cats and dogs and I know that I will never take my pet to any other vet. While most of my interaction was with Dr. Alvarez, any interaction I had with their staff has been fantastic: from Josie helping with the appointment being scheduled to members of the front desk checking us in, everything was a smooth process where I felt my pet was truly cared for.

I've been with FP for 25+ years and have had excellent guidance and care for every one of my many pets over these many years. I currently see Dr. Gonzalez and she has continued the FP tradition in provided outstanding care - and I feel fortunate that she is my primary vet.

I normally don't write reviews on google, but because i am such a tremendous dog lover, this is too important not to share..

We had been going to Family Pet on Webster for 7 years and even though we moved out of Lincoln Park to Lakeview, we continued using them. When I first starting going to Family Pet, their care and treatment was terrific. Unfortunately, that care slowly deteriorated over the years and their pricing slowly increased.

I didn't realized how much the care had dropped off until they missed parasites in a fecal exam, which is inexcusable given how important that exam is, and they missed a vaccination(Lyme vaccination) given my dogs exposure to the outdoors.

I also didn't realize I was paying triple the amount until I visited another vet.

My last visit to Family Pet, the DVM seemed more like a glorified vet technician than Veterinarian. The conversations and focus from the actual technicians were always "do you have a card on file"...

When I finally was fed up with the "this doesn't feel right" feeling, I was surprised at how easily I found better care at 1/3 of the cost....

Family Pet, I hope this will help you improve your practice and allow you to get back to the way it used to be....

Dr. Alvarez is incredible. We recently had an instance that required us bringing our dog to an emergency room, the next day Dr. Alvarez and Jo could not have been more comforting and reassuring in the diagnosis and next steps. Dr. Alvarez took the time to review all the records, Jo called me a few times to share Dr. Alvarez’s feedback/ answer all my questions/concerns and overall were the most comforting duo we could have asked for. We’ve gone to FPAH for many years now and in addition to the exceptional care Jim, Raymond, Jo and the rest of the team are always so comforting and quick with answers knowing waiting can be super tough. We love fam pet and are so grateful for everyone there!

Response to the response: They were told multiple times. In fact, the second phone call on 2/6 included me saying “we need to know what you’re looking for to see if we can afford it’ after that we were STILL pressured on the ultrasound. You were given multiple chances to make it right. Also, this doesn’t include any comment on the horrific comment on human v cat MRIs. The original review stands, Raymond.

This place does not want to see low income patients and will not respect you. Was open from the front of our appointment that my partner and I are both on disability. I was actually on FaceTime as I’ve been home bound for over a year. The doctor we actually saw was lovely, aside from the fact that she ran a $300 blood test without even warning us it would be that expensive.

When the results came back they showed some kidney disease and anemia. We were called back by a vet we didn’t meet who insisted that before we treat any of that we have an $800 ultrasound of our cats abdomen. It would be dishonest to tell you discussing GI problems came out of nowhere as this wasn’t entirely without reason, but the reason we took our cat to the vet was because she was pawing at her teeth not because she was having any GI issues.

She also said that we needed to see a feline neurologist and have an MRI. Again, this started as a tooth issue. In saying this, she tells my partner in a lighthearted manner ‘And hey, cat MRIs are cheaper out of pocket than human MRIs’

What a callous and insane thing to say especially when you aren’t even the vet who examined the cat. I’m really not happy about any part of this experience, but the main reason I write this is because they were highly recommended for people with financial trouble. That’s not the case, and judging by how callous the doctor was about the cost of MRIs I think everyone here was born with a silver spoon between two cheeks. Whether that spoons in the top end or the bottom is anyone’s guess.

Oh, and for the record, considering I was on FaceTime from my motorized wheelchair, the MRI comment was actually super insensitive and cruel. But considering this vet didn’t actually ever meet my cat, one couldn’t expect her to know. That’s why those kind of comments should never be made in the first place, or you’ll look like a real piece of work.

I have been bringing my pup Bizzy Boy here since his adoption 4 years ago. He has received compassionate care and concern and they always follow up after appointments to check on him. Like all vet care it is expensive but they always provide costs ahead of time.
