This is going to be a bit of a mix bag just to forewarn those reading this. I would like to first state that the owners are very nice and would seem to be very knowledgeable in regards to all things avian related. I went into the store on Friday ( May 31, 2019) with the hopes of finding my daughter a cockatiel. She had a very specific mutation she wanted and that was a Whitehead. As luck would have it they had one left and I purchased it and my daughter was ecstatic!!

The next morning (June 1, 2019) I noticed the bird had not moved, eaten or drank water and so I was concerned. I immediately called and the owner Bessie recommended that I place it with our other cockatiel so that it may perk up. However the bird was far too lethargic and within an hour or so of me calling the bird had passed. We told our daughter the bird was going for a spa day and would return that Monday but may look slightly different due to the “grooming”. I then proceeded to call and spoke to Bessie’s husband who said they were going to a show on Sunday and would get me a replacement and apologized for what had occurred.

Monday (June 3, 2019) I arrived at the store around 1030AM and saw a cage full of cockatiels but only 1 white head which Bessie informed me was for her friend. That left me with a choice of a lutino, a couple of regular and some very weak pied. I informed her that I was told I would be receiving a white head and she stated they couldn’t find any at the bird show. Never was a refund offered and so I was stuck with a cheaper bird but at the white head cost and then she offered to sell me bird feed. Her husband did show up and informed me that the siblings of my daughter’s bird had died as well.

In conclusion, I will not be doing business with Bessie’s Birds in the future and I would warn others that you may not get what you buy should something horrible occur such as what happened to my daughter’s bird.

I feel compelled to review this store and the owners as we had a really great experience in their establishment. They have a really nice selection of some rare birds. We purchased 3 young birds from them. We are first time "indoor" exotic bird owners ( we have had livestock before ( chickens, peacocks, emus). The birds we bought are all healthy and friendly. My 3 kids took all of the birds out of the boxes on the way home as they just could not bare to wait to hold them ( an hour and 1/2 ride) These amazing little creatures sat quietly on their shoulders, cuddling with them the entire time. I am not sure about some of the negative reviews. I found the store to be pretty clean considering the amount of birds they have( birds are very messy in general). The owners were very warm and welcoming and extremely helpful. I appreciated the advice they provided to me about not using certain cleaning products and the various toxins/fumes that are harmful to little bird's lungs. I definitely would return.

Cages are dirty, water bowls look like they haven’t been changed in a very long time, birds appear sick. They are in cages that are way too small and overcrowded with very little toys/entertainment. Plenty of reviews stating they purchased a bird and it died within days. Do NOT buy a bird from here. I also should add she has “purchases are final” signs. Any good pet store has a policy that if the pet gets sick or dies, you can get a refund or a new pet. This very clearly shows that she knows her birds are sick and only cares for profit. Maybe if you properly cared for your animals you’d get better business.

We came in to find our new little family member yesterday and were impressed with how knowledgeable and friendly the owners are. ♥
My son wanted a parakeet, and after tons of research and preparation, he was ready! He wanted to buy one from a loving breeder, not from one of the big box stores that sell mass produced crazy ones. We discovered Bessie's Birds here on Facebook, and decided to buy one of her babies.
Even though we weren't buying a super expensive bird, we were treated with respect and attention, and were given all the information we needed. She spent time talking to us about bird care, and even filed down her little nails and beak to make sure she wasn't able to pinch or scratch too much. We were also given a tour of the shop and got to see all the beautiful animals kept there. They were all very healthy and it was plain to see they are well cared for.
She obviously cares very much about her babies and wants them all to go to good homes. This little parakeet has a great home here, and we will be back to visit again in the future when we are ready for another feathery family member! ♥

We bought a baby cockatiel from Bessie over a year ago and he has been the sweetest bird. He is very healthy! I know he was hand raised as he was so calm that he slept through a huge event in my daughter's jacket! He has grown into a very healthy and sweet boy. Ty Bessie!! I hope to see you again in the future. If you need a baby she has very well adjusted and healthy babies!

We recently purchased 2 adorable finches and a very sweet cockatiel from Bessie’s Birds. The owners are very knowledgeable about birds and are very helpful. They helped us to find the best birds for our family and helped us to pick out the appropriate cages, toys and feed. Such a fun shop! We will be back!
